Love of My Love
(Happy Story of Georgi and Inna Parker)
 |
“Dear Natasha,
I would like to contribute my story to
your collection of true stories and share the wonderful love my wife
and I have for one another. We have been married almost
eight very happy and wonderful years and have known each other
almost ten years.
We
met through a university writing exchange program and corresponded
through fax, telephone and letter for almost two years. Through this
imperfect means of communication, our love grew. When I deplaned in
Moscow for the first time, I immediately recognized Inna.
|
It was as though we had
known each other much longer; I knew I had met my future wife. A
whirlwind of trips back and forth followed, as well as telephone calls, faxes and
many, many letters. We finally arranged for her to travel to the
United States to visit late in the same year. By the end of Inna's Visa, we
decided to get
married. Inna returned to Moscow two days later to put her
affairs in order
and make plans to return. I traveled to Moscow about six months
later to
convert to Russian Orthodoxy and to be married in the Orthodox church. I
took the name Georgi and cherish the Russian faith and way of life. This
is
much the way we maintain our lives now.
Inna received her Permanent Resident Alien
status finally in Sept. 1995,
after almost one year of marriage. It was very painful for us
not to be
together the entire time. All through these years, our love has
endured and
exponentially grown. There was to be sure a small adjustment
period, but we
are both flexible and support each other's shortcomings to the point that
we
are perfectly suited.
Inna is my wife, lover and best friend. We
are well adjusted and secure
with ourselves. We love each other without reservation and hate
to be apart
from each other for any length of time. Our love is proof that
international
marriages do work. It does not matter where each spouse comes
from; when one
meets the right person, then it is known immediately. Inna is
my love of all
life. “
