Having moved abroad, many Russian women had to bring their children along with them. It is a well known fact, that parenting has always evoked a lot of problems, even under normal circumstances – in our native countries, with our original (biological) families. It is probably ten times worse when your new stepparent is a foreigner.

Being forced to change their custom atmosphere, kids have no other choice than to adjust themselves to a new life and to their new families. Of course, their adjustment depends on many different factors. Some are inherent and can not be effected from outside influences. These are: the age of the particular child, his temperament and character, the level of education he received before moving to another country, etc. At the same time, there are some areas where both parents can help their kids to make this transition smoothly and painlessly, or on the contrary, aggravate the process.

RWA begins a new project devoted to Russian Children living abroad. Under this rubric we will tell you about the positive and negative experiences of raising children abroad with International families, and foreign stepparents.

We will publish your own stories and the stories written by our kids. In the near future we are going to add a special guestbook for Russian children looking for friends in the United States and other countries.
