HOW TO "RUSSIFY" YOUR COMPUTER
Many Russian women experience troubles while browsing
Russian websites on the Internet and trying to type in Russian. Most of us don't
have any information regarding how to install Russian fonts and enable
appropriate encoding on our computers. It took me almost a year to complete this
simple procedure though I was quite familiar with the Internet. Thanks to Joanna
from FL and Lena from TN I was able to put together "step by step" instruction,
which, I hope, will help all of you to Russify your own
PCs:
TO
INSTALL RUSSIAN FONTS ON YOUR PG GO TO: 1. START 2. SETTINGS 3. CONTROL PANEL 4.
KEYBOARD 5. LANGUAGE CLICK "ADD" BUTTON FROM THE LIST OF LANGUAGES
CHOSE "RUSSIAN" CHOSE HOW DO YOU WANT TO SWITCH LANGUAGE ON YOUR PC FROM THE
OPTIONS ON THE SCREEN PRESS "OK"
If by any reason, you cannot find
Russian fonts in your PC, you can find free fonts at:
http://freesitex.com/font01.shtml
TO BE ABLE TO READ RUSSIAN FONTS ON THE INTERNET YOU
HAVE TO RUSSIFY WINDOWS APPLICATIONS.
ENCODINGS is a way of assigning numeric codes to characters in
caracter set. There are two most popular ENCODINGS used for representating
CYRILLIC characters:
KOI8-R (an official Internet
standard encoding) and CPI251
(known as Microsoft standard encoding). Netscape Navigator 4.0 and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3.0 and higher can automatically translate text from one
encoding to another.
TO RUSSIFY YOUR APPLICATIONS: 1. START NAVIGATOR OR MS EXPLORER 2. SELECT
"VIEW" ON THE TOP MENU 3. CLICK ON "ENCODING" 4. CHOSE "CYRILLIC
WINDOWS" 5. PRESS "OK" BUTTON.
If you won't be able to read some of
the Russian sites click on MORE in ENCODING option. From the options chose
encoding KOI8 and press "OK". If you still experience troubles and need more
information, check http://www.siber.com/sib/russify This site gives complete and easy to understand
information regarding this subject.
Good Luck, Natasha
